Barbarian Daniel (Australia) interview ENG

Daniel is part of team Barbarians, a true sportsman, he also runns Youtube channel FitnessFAQs where you can find most of tutorials you need, link will be at the end of this interview.

Hey Daniel, need to thank you for movies :) You do a really quality tutorials, and i have gotten a lot of help in my workouts from your YouTube channel!.

I told forum members that we are making interview, so they wanted to asked you some questions.

Were you active in any sport before you started to workout the calisthenics way?
What really got me into physical activity was starting parkour when I was around 13-15 years old, I always enjoyed the strength and conditioning element of this discipline. After a few years of training parkour I started to focus solely on calisthenics at around age 16, and from there the rest is history. I currently play Australian Rules Football for a team as well as training calisthenics.

What would you recommend to a beginner?
As it is often recommended by those who are experienced, start off with the basics. Many people make the mistake of attempting advanced moves they see in videos before their tendons and joints are prepared for such strain, resulting in poor form displayed and injury.
Stick to the basics such as pushups, pullups, dips and basic handbalancing working your way up to higher reps gradually as you get stronger. Also, my biggest recommendation would be from day 1 to perform all exercises with a full range of motion, you may feel weak to begin with, but your strength will improve faster this way.

I bet you know every major player in this game all over the globe , could you pick top  players that you admire the most?
Zef and Marcus bondi. These two guys are as humble as they come, willing to provide guidance and motivation whenever they can. They motivated me through their videos and speaking with them that you can achieve your goals if you are willing to put in the hard work to get them.

Do you read some literature on calisthenics and training? if you do, what do you recommend?
There really isn't that much out there at the moment in this area, hence why I created a youtube channel to share my knowledge to those who are willing to listen and learn.

After all tutorials you have made i bet people often ask you do you do gymnastics... what`s the answer?
I have never been coached in gymnastics, I began to self teach my self handbalancing in late 2008, which proves that anyone can do it if they have the right attitude.

Whats your life moto?
"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."

How long did it take for you to to be able to a perform perfect muscle up and front lever?
The perfect muscle up and front-lever were a long work in progress. I'd say around 6 months for the perfect muscle up and around 7-8 for the front lever.
Something I always tell people who ask me how long a specific exercise takes to obtain is: Don't worry about the duration of the journey, enjoy the journey itself, because seeing small improvements in strength as weeks go by is one of the most rewarding aspects of training.

How much do you take care for what you eat? What is your favorite clean & healthy dish?
I eat quite healthy, being sure to rarely eat chocolate, candy or consume soft drink, alcohol ect..
I eat 5-6 meals a day consisting of lean sources of protein in atleast 3-4 meals, complex carbohydrates and vegetables + fruits.

Do you often do cheat meal and which one is your favorite?
When I do, Pizza :D :D

And the last question...written by a female member on forum :) Do you prefere sport-girls or regular (no-workout)-girls ?
Both ;) ;)
